Engineering Intern Program at Kentik
At Kentik, we strive to provide everyone, from employees to interns, with an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our business. Our engineering internship program does just that by placing each intern with a mentor and integrating them into real, production-destined projects.
We want our interns to be able to walk away with skills and experience they can immediately apply to their careers after they finish school.
Overview
This Kentik internship is a 12-week impactful learning experience. Interns work on production code and are integrated with our team to solve real problems. We have a dedicated mentor for each intern, which gives them a chance to work directly with an engineer on our team and receive regular feedback on their work. They collaborate with product managers and designers as well.
Kentik is a fully remote company, but we held an in-person kickoff in Baltimore with all of the interns, mentors, and a few engineering leaders! It was a great opportunity for everyone to meet in person, go through orientation, and enjoy some team dinners and outings — including a fun (although rainy) Orioles game!
At the close of the program, each intern was asked to present a retrospective of what they had learned and the challenges they had faced. They each presented their unique ideas and delivery styles. We appreciate their hard work and efforts in making this program successful and improving it for years to come!

Key takeaways

What are you going to take away from the internship, or what skills did you improve over the summer?
“I have found a strong sense of community with the most incredible people. The challenging work and consistent support have given me a new confidence in my abilities as a software engineer … It’s been a pleasant surprise to feel so welcomed and connected in a fully remote environment, and I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity.” - Emma
“This internship was an awesome chance to learn from experienced pros and really level up my skills. I got a lot better at jumping between projects by recognizing how different parts of the codebase worked together. Plus, my communication skills as a developer grew quite a bit - I'm much better at seeking help and clearly articulating my work to others.” - Dhruv
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow my skills and learn how to navigate complex codebases. I also learned how collaboration, asking questions, and staying curious can make problem-solving faster and more rewarding.” - Subhan
“I gained firsthand experience with full-stack development and testing, witnessing a solution come to life and seeing the direct outcome of my work … Ultimately, the exposure to a wide range of software mindsets allowed me to put my previous skills to work while learning so much more in real-time.” - Zoe
“My internship provided a first-hand look into the collaborative process of how engineers ship features and fixes. Being exposed to this while asking questions to experienced individuals provided invaluable insight and advice.” - Richard

The Summer 2025 program provided our interns with an opportunity to refine their skills, contribute to real-world projects, and develop lasting confidence as engineers. We’re proud of what they accomplished and excited to see where their journeys take them next!
