January 2017 – New Features

Data Explorer Pivot to Dashboard

Ability to “pivot” a row in the Data Explorer. This opens a (configurable) dashboard showing many different views/dimensions of the chosen row’s data. The pivot feature allows rapid and comprehensive data exploration, reducing the need to manually construct several ad-hoc views.

Flow Type Autodetection

Users no longer have to indicate to Kentik what flow type they are sending (e.g. NetFlow, sFlow, IPFIX). In the Admin Device List, the “Flow” column now indicates what flow type we are receiving and auto-detecting from each device.

A10 Integration with Anomaly Detection

Our anomaly detection system now supports integration with A10 mitigation hardware. To configure the A10 mitigation platform for use within policies, go to the Mitigation menu under the Alerts and click on the +Create Mitigation Platform.

A10 Integration

  • Alerting v3 now supports control over the minimum amount of data required before a valid baseline is available (min_lookback). You now create a new notification channel from directly within the threshold notification-add function. Many small usability features added to alerting as well such as better use of units, clarified axis in charts, debug section added…
  • The dashboard layout infrastructure has been redesigned to improve speed and ease of use
  • Exports and scheduled reports have been redesigned for ease of use
  • A “matrix view” is now available in the Data Explorer and dashboards
  • You can now tell the state of your BGP session from the device listing (admin tab)

November 2016

  • Tagging now support regex for device names and interface fields. IPv6 is now supported in tagging
  • You can now see the API calls in the explorer as “pretty JSON”
  • Peering analysis now supports ipv6 as well as showing the full path on mouseover

September/October 2016

  • Explorer not support graph highlight+drag to zoom
  • Table Widget type live in explorer and can be added to dashboards
  • Custom Dimensions live in Prod (Admin -> Custom Dimensions, explorer/dimensions)
  • Saved filters live in prod (admin -> Saved filters, explorer, alerts, dashboards). We strongly recommend using these over tags as they are more flexible and result in much faster results.
  • All tables in the explorer now have row highlighting, some support click through (others pending)

August 2016

  • Individual ipv4 and ipv6 cidr grouping when ip address is a dimension
  • Nprobe support for host-level traffic and performance info
  • Parent interface descriptions are inherited when child is null for Juniper router interface naming scheme
  • You can now combine multiple graphs in the explorer (and dashboards) using the Multiple Series feature. Available under Explorer hamburger
