Customer Success Engineer

Location: West Coast United States

Kentik is a SaaS platform for network traffic analytics derived from flow (NetFlow, sFlow, IPFIX), BGP routing data, and a number of other sources, including Google Cloud and Amazon AWS. We go way beyond what appliances and software-on-server solutions are capable of in terms of scale, query speed, data granularity, and flexibility. Detect and rapidly drill down to root cause on outages, performance issues, DDoS events across global, terabit-scale infrastructure. Our customers operate the biggest networks in the world: telcos, international carriers, hosting providers, and digital-native enterprises like Pandora, Box, Yelp, Spotify, Neustar, and Cisco / OpenDNS. Kentik was founded in 2014 by leaders in networking and big data.

  • Manage all technical aspects of the post-sales process including on-boarding, configuration assistance, training, and customer support

  • Carefully review customer data to identify points of interest, anomalies, and possible adversarial network traffic patterns

  • Help customers integrate Kentik with their own in-house tools and systems via Kentik API, SQL, and alert notifications

  • Champion of listening to customer needs and wants, and channeling product feedback and feature requests to engineering organization

  • Keep customers updated on new features, use cases, and product roadmap

  • Work in tandem with Solutions Engineers and Account Executives to develop opportunities for expansion and follow-on sales

  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and other events

  • Travel to customers in designated territory


  • A minimum of 5 years experience in a hi-tech sales/solutions engineering OR systems/network engineering role

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to conduct technical conversations with prospects ranging from staff level engineers and architects to senior executives

  • Experience administering Cisco/Juniper routers and your own Linux servers

  • Deep understanding of routing, switching, BGP and MPLS

  • Programming proficiency in Perl and bash

  • Ability to travel as needed

  • Basic database and/or SQL experience

  • Understanding of DDoS events and basic mitigation methods

Bonus Points:

  • Background or product interest in security, performance, monitoring, and/or infrastructure space

  • Public cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • Programming proficiency in Python, C, and/or Go

  • JSON experience

  • Familiarity with open source technologies such as SiLK, pmacct, and nfsen

  • Experience dealing with big data systems such as Python, Perl, C and/or Go; Hadoop/MapReduce, time series data (e.g., opentsdb) and NoSQL databases

  • Been a member of a customer success team at a hyper-growth startup
